Western United is dedicated to growing the presence of women’s football in the West and has taken significant steps to furthering opportunities for everyone to play football.
In December 2020, Western United struck a partnership with Calder United in the NPLW, a partnership that has continued to flourish ever since.
Through shared resources and expertise to develop junior and high-performance programs, Calder United has become a crucial part of the Western United family and has continued its great success on the pitch, winning the NPLW Victoria Grand Final in 2019 and four consecutive Nike F.C. Cup titles from 2018 to 2021.
Western United commenced an elite women’s development program in 2021 which has aimed to identify the best talents, particularly in the west, that will form the core of the Club’s A-League Women’s side.
Western United was successful in securing a license for the Liberty A-League Women in the 2022/23 season in a landmark moment for the Club and for women’s sport in the West of Victoria.
Work is well underway to sign coaching staff and players for Western United’s inaugural A-League Women campaign as the Club continues to expand into more than just a men’s football team.
