Western United Football Club (WUFC) has announced Mark Rudan as their Senior Coach during a press conference at WUFC headquarters in Truganina this morning.
The appointment of the the Hyundai A-League’s newest coach comes at a time when the club has an- nounced a group of some of the most exciting young players in domestic football history.
However, under the careful watch of Rudan, it’s the mixture of both experience and youth that will set WUFC for success in its rst season.
After an illustrious career in the NSL with both Sydney United and Northern Spirit, Rudan had a short stint in Europe before joining Sydney FC as one of their rst signings in the inaugural Hyundai A-League competition in 2005.
Upon retirement, Rudan moved quickly into coaching becoming the rst grade coach for rst division NSW club, Rockdale City Suns. Shortly after he moved to Sydney United where he helped them win both the NSW Premier League and the then inaugural season of the National Premier Leagues the following year.
His rst opportunity to take a Senior Coaching position in the Hyundai A-League came with Wellington Phoenix in the 2018/19 season.
On being appointed Senior Coach for WUFC, Rudan said he was looking forward to writing the rst chapter for a new club as well as providing the leadership that a new group of players need when coming together for the rst time.
“There is something special about starting at a club with no history, because it gives you the opportunity to write the rst couple pages,” Rudan said.
“The calibre of talent we’ve already signed and the group that has started to come together has the po- tential to do great things in this competition and it’s going to be exciting to help them gel on the park.”
“I’ve been given a huge responsibility by Western United and the Board with this role not just because of the club and its new players, but because football in the West of Melbourne has some of the most passionate fans in Australia and it’s important that they’re proud of what we do out on the park.”
WUFC CEO Maurice Bisetto said that the appointment of this respected leader is a positive step in securing a strong side.

WUFC will join the Hyundai A-League from the start of the 2019/20 season beginning in October this year.
