Western United Football Club signs former Phoenix midfielder Max Burgess
Western United Football Club (WUFC) has signed a two-year contract with Sydney-born mid elder Max Burgess, adding another emerging talent to the club’s first season.
The 24-year-old Burgess started his career at Rockdale City Suns where he was spotted by Sydney FC management and signed up to the Sydney FC Youth Team.
Burgess played brie y for Sydney FC’s senior squad, along with making short appearances at Newcastle Jets, Adelaide United and Portugeuse LigaPro side Uniao. Most recently, Burgess was at Wellington Phoenix.
WUFC senior coach, Mark Rudan, said Burgess’ passion and skill for the game was what caught his eye.
“Max Burgess is another talented Australian player to join our new Club and we have no doubt our fans will welcome his skill and midfield talent.”
“Max is very versatile and will provide our coaching staff with plenty of options. He’s only 24, and has remained dedicated to the game, making it to the A-League the hard way – coming up through local competitions in Sydney,” Rudan said.
On his signing, Burgess said he was thrilled to be a part of the Hyundai A-League’s newest club.
“I am really honoured to join Western United in their inaugural season. I feel like I really stepped up this past year and I’m looking forward to taking my performance to another level.”
“I’m hoping to show my new coaches and fans that I will fight hard for them,” Burgess said.
WUFC will join the Hyundai A-League from the start of the 2019/20 season beginning in October this year.
