The Western United Weekly Wrap is a quick-fire around the grounds summary of results from our NPL3 men’s and NPLW women’s teams.

This report sums up the games from the weekend ending Monday, 20 June 2021.

NPL 3 – Western United Academy Teams

Our NPL teams restarted their campaign against Box Hill United – a rematch of their round 1 fixture.

The seniors were defeated for the first time this season, going down 1-0 at Wembley Park.

The Under 21’s took an early lead against Box Hill but were ultimately defeated 2-1.

NPLW – Calder United FC

Our Under 19’s headed to Heidelberg to bounce back after a few losses and a Covid lockdown. The game started very evenly with both teams displaying a competitive style of play. Going into half-time at 0-0 it was Calder that came out of the break with the edge when Stella produced the first goal of the game at the 66” minute.

Calder took control from that moment going on to score the second in the 81^st minute with a goal from Cappola and going on to secure the game with a 2-0 win.

The Calder senior girls creating all the chances in the first half of their match but could not find the back of the net.

The only goal of the game was scored by Heidelberg in the 71^st minute which was enough to see out the 1-0 result.

Both senior teams prepare for a clash at home this Saturday against rivals Bulleen Lions.
