The Western United weekend wrap up is a quick-fire around the grounds summary of results from our NPL 3 men’s and NPLW women’s teams.
This report sums up the games from the weekend ending Sunday 27 June 2021.
NPL 3 – Western United Academy Teams
Both Western United academy teams were looking to get back to winning ways, with a good opportunity to do so against Whittlesea Ranges.
In the seniors, Whittlesea were on a winless run of six games coming into this fixture, and Ante Moric’s side extended that with a 2-1 victory.
Manny Aguek continued his outstanding goal scoring run with a match-winning brace, taking him up to six goals in his last four games and 11 for the season overall, now the outright league-leading total.
A-League left-back Dalibor Markovic made his first appearance for the academy as he looks to work his way to full fitness for next season after suffering an ankle injury in April.
The Under-21’s side had a more comfortable time of it at Epping Stadium, with a comprehensive 5-0 victory on Sunday.
A first half double from James Tountas set United on its way before Greg Siamoa, Jake Najdovski and an own goal completed the rout in the second period.
The two wins leave both teams in strong positions in their respective leagues. The seniors remain in third place but move closer to the top after Preston Lions drew with Melbourne Victory, while the Under-21’s sit seventh.

NPLW – Calder United
The Calder United senior sides had a big weekend at Knox Regional Football Centre, with the seniors facing FV Emerging and the Under-19 girls going up against the undefeated NTC U17 side.
The seniors earned a hugely important 2-0, with two first half goals taking the side above FV Emerging and into third on the table.
Aleksandra Sinclair scored her 10th goal of the season with a second half penalty to wrap up the result after Adriana Taranto had opened the scoring inside the opening 10 minutes.
On what was a dreary Saturday afternoon, the Under-19’s side had earlier fallen just short of being the first team to take points off NTC U17, going down 2-1 in a competitive clash.
