Western United is proud to name the three finalists for the Top Corner partnership initiative after the first round of applications.
The Top Corner promotion will grant one small business in the west a Western United partnership valued at $50,000 as the Club seeks to support local businesses who have been impacted by the coronavirus pandemic.
The Club was sent almost 40 applications from a range of businesses across the west, but has narrowed the running down to three finalists.
Fans can vote for their favourite entry to go into the draw to win a signed 2021/22 Isuzu Ute A-League Men season jersey.
DZLA – Altona (Hobsons Bay)
The first finalist is DZLA, a clothing company run by Darren Woolford and his family out of his home in Altona.
DZLA strives to make high quality, high comfort clothing items with simple designs that can be worn anywhere, but it is more than just about the clothes.
DZLA has partnered with SeaTrees to support the reforesting of the worlds oceans to combat climate change and protect the planet.
The business also donates part of its profits to support mental health awareness with headspace Australia as well as volunteer efforts at SES Victoria.
Woolford said this partnership would help him continue to make a difference in the local communities and raise awareness of DZLA’s mission.
“We’re so excited to be nominated as one of the finalists for the Western United competition,” Woolford said.
“Winning this competition would make a huge difference to us as a business – we would be able to give back more. We are so proud to be part of the western suburbs community as a whole, and I think Western United for giving me the opportunity to be one of the finalists.
“Our goal is to help raise more awareness of the two main areas we are trying to help – which are saving our oceans & supporting mental health & wellbeing & to have more people join us on this important journey would be incredible.”
JConcepts Timber Floors – Tarneit (Wyndham)
Operating for over 20 years, JConcepts Timber Floors specialises in the supply, installation, sanding and polishing of timber flooring.
Servicing a range of projects in the west and in Melbourne, JConcepts is a family-fun business on Sayers Road, a stones throw away from the site of Wyndham Stadium and right in Western United heartland.
Jay Stewart and his family are football lovers, with two young boys playing NPL and dreaming of one day pulling on the Green and Black.
The business has been partnering with local soccer clubs for a number of years but is seeking greater opportunities with a professional club and brand.
Stewart said winning the Top Corner promotion would bring a world of difference to his organisation and his family.
“Actually winning would be such a boost for our company as we would be able to reach more customers and be able to make a bigger impression within the western community, allowing us to grow as a company,” he said.
“Finding out I had been selected as a Top Corner Finalist was like being selected to play striker with the team!”
Dodo’s Delights – West Footscray (Maribyrnong)
Dodo’s Delights is a café situated in West Footscray and managed by Rhonda and Lee, a mother and son pair of western suburbs locals.
While Rhonda lives in Hoppers Crossing and Lee resides in Truganina, the duo meets in West Footscray to deliver a mix of traditional and modern homemade recipes.
Rhonda and Lee go one step further than just serving food and coffees, offering catering services for events and selling a range of homemade jams and marmalades. Rhonda also makes all of her classic recipes available for customers to try themselves at home.
And the food journey will not stop at Dodo’s Delights, with plans to open a second café in the Wyndham area as well as a restaurant that brings the ‘trendy’ inner-city food to the west.
Rhonda and Lee are committed to continuing to serve customers in the west with a smile and look forward to developing their brand in the coming years.
“Like WUFC, we are proud of the western suburbs and looking to grow our presence. This partnership would assist us greatly in growing our business further throughout the west,” Lee said.
“We already have a strong connection to a couple of local community organisations, including theatre companies and sporting clubs and as our business grows, we aim to continue this support. Doing this as a partner of WUFC would allow us to continue to grow with and for the community.”
