Meet rising star Apostolos Stamatelopoulos.
Who were your previous clubs?
Adelaide United.
Wherever you had most success, where did you like playing best, and why?
Adelaide, as that’s my home town club, and playing in front of my family and friends, of course! That was special.
Why do you love football? Did you ever consider any other sport?
I just started at a young age. Dad took me about to practice before school; he used to play for West Adelaide. But I played cricket, loved tennis, enjoyed playing AFL at school, too, but honestly, I was best at football and loved it.
Is there anything you don’t like about being a professional footballer – be honest!
Nothing, really. I’m living the dream!
What are your dreams for your career from now?
I’d love to play for Liverpool, the ultimate dream, but let’s take it one step at a time, eh?! But for now, to do my best for Western United, and have the Club have a great season.
Why Western United? What do you like about the new Club?
I think the chance to be the part of something fresh and new, the chance for me as a young player to come over here and challenge myself, to mature, to try a new environment.
What do you do when you’re not playing football? Any special hobbies?
I’m too busy at the moment! But I am thinking of going back to Uni to do a Bachelor of Business … set myself up for the future, I guess.
Favourite band?
I don’t know! Red Hot Chilli Peppers, maybe?
Favourite movie?
300. Good ‘blokes’ movie.
Favourite football legend – any country, any era?
Fernando Torres, because I grew up a Liverpool fan, and it was the first footy top my Mum and Dad bought me!
Who did you support as a youngster before you started playing football professionally?
Yes, Liverpool. The mighty Reds.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
United’s first home game in the A-League is Saturday, October 19 against reigning Premiers Perth Glory at GMHBA Stadium in Geelong.
