Kahli Johnson recognised with another Young Matildas selection

Fresh from scoring her first two Liberty A-League Women goals, Western United young gun Kahli Johnson has been rewarded with another call-up to the Young Matildas squad.

Johnson was in fine form for United on Sunday, finding the net twice within the first half as the Green and Black romped to a 6-0 victory against Newcastle Jets.

Having just come out of a training camp last week, Johnson will head to the Kyrgyz Republic with Leah Blayney’s team for the first round of qualification for the 2024 AFC U20 Asian Cup.

Western United General Manager of Football Mal Impiombato said Johnson’s development in the last month alone was increasingly promising for the Club.

“We are pleased with Kahli’s progression this season and we are delighted that she has been duly rewarded once again with national team selection,” he said.

“Kahli’s performance on the weekend against Newcastle was no surprise to our Club as her attitude and commitment to improve each day is exemplary.

“Kahli is a talented and ambitious footballer and we are proud of her selection for the Young Matildas. We hope to provide her and others a platform to continuously improve and develop.”

Johnson continues to be a regular in the Young Matildas set-up and will have the opportunity to play competitive matches for the first time since the FIFA U20 World Cup last year.

The winger continues to develop both technically and physically and will continue to be a key player for Western United in the run in to the end Liberty A-League season.

Johnson’s participation in this camp will mean she will miss United’s next two Liberty A-League matches against Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar.

After that, the No.10 will return for the final two matches of the regular season as United continues to strive for silverware.

Everyone at Western United congratulates Johnson on another national team selection and looks forward to watching her on the international stage once again.
