Besart Berisha cannot wait to play in Western United’s first home game this Saturday.

After a 1-0 win in Wellington, United are set to take on reigning premiers Perth Glory at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong.

And Berisha is looking forward to playing in front of the club’s home fans for the first time.

“It’s very exciting. First game at home. I’m hoping we get a lot of support,” Berisha said.

“The boys are ready. Games like in Wellington give us a lot of confidence and motivation to go to the next time which is now a home game and I hope a lot of supporters come out.”

Berisha scored the winner in the round 1 clash against the Phoenix, taking his total goal tally in the Hyundai A-League to 117.

But the A-League’s record goalscorer is focused on helping his team rather than individual accolades.

“I just wanted to do my job as a striker and help my team as much as I can.”

“You have to score goals for your team, for your club. And of course, I want to do this, but the most important thing is really I came here to help the team with my experience, with my game, the way I play and try to help as much as I can.”

Berisha, who is now an Australian citizen, is enjoying life back in the country after a stint in Japan with Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

“It feels amazing. It’s great to be back. I’m so happy to be back and to have a start like this for Western United and a new club in the A-League… I feel very, very happy.

“I’m so happy with my decision to come back to the A-League.”

Western United face Perth Glory on Saturday.
