The independent Match Review Panel (MRP) has proposed a three-game suspension for Western United defender James Donachie.
The centre-back received a straight red card in the 90th minute of United’s 2-0 win over Newcastle Jets on Friday night after a VAR upgraded the original decision of a yellow card.
The MRP determined that Donachie committed the offence of “Assault on a Player (e.g. violent conduct when not challenging for the ball) or against any other person other than a Match Official, including an attempted Assault”.
The proposed sanction of three matches represents the minimum sanction for the offence plus one (1) additional match.
Donachie and Western United have until 2:00pm AEDT on Tuesday, 20 February 2024 to advise Football Australia if they wish to refer the matter to the independent Disciplinary and Ethic Committee.
