Western United Fans’ Players of the Season – who gets your vote?

Western United Gala Night 2024

Western United fans will have their say on who they thought were the best players in Green and Black across the Isuzu UTE A-League Men and Liberty A-League Women this season.

Voting is now open for the Fans’ Player of the Season awards to be presented at the 2024 Western United Gala Night next week.

There have been a number of incredible performances from individual players across the season, but who will get your vote? Get in quick, voting closes today – Friday 3 May, 2024.

Matthew Grimaldi

In his first season as a professional footballer, Matthew Grimaldi made everyone sit up and take notice of his talent.

Western United fans were given a taste when he scored on his senior debut in the Australia Cup, but he took it to a whole new level in the Isuzu UTE A-League season.

The 20-year-old ended the campaign with five goals across 23 appearances, including 10 starts, with four of those goals coming in his final eight matches.

Grace Maher

Much like her defensive partner in Cerne, Grace Maher was an ever-present across every minute of Western United’s season and shone throughout her first season at the Club.

Her natural ball-playing ability was on show with three assists across the season, including a brilliant long-range ball to set up Keiwa Hieda against Melbourne Victory in January.

Maher also found the back of the net herself with a stunning Olimpico against Wellington Phoenix, and her performances were recognised on Thursday with selection in the PFA Team of the Season.

Daniel Penha

Making his return to the Isuzu UTE A-League, Daniel Penha picked right back up where he left off in being one of the very best players in the competition.

The Brazilian was behind some of Western United’s best attacking performances with his flair, trickery and ambition on the ball sending shivers down the spines of opposition defences.

Penha scored a team-high seven goals – including some belters against Macarthur FC and Melbourne Victory – and has earned a place in the A-League All Stars Men as a result.

Chloe Logarzo

Just in case anyone might have forgotten, Chloe Logarzo issued a timely reminder of just how good she is at football with an outstanding 2023/24 season.

The Western United co-captain scored nine goals and provided three assists, going at more than a goal contribution every other game across 17 appearances.

Logarzo was rewarded for her form with a recall to the Matildas squad this year and was not only one of Western United’s best this season, but one of the best players across the entire Liberty A-League.

Western United Fans’ Goal of the Season awards

Voting is also open for the Western United Fans’ Goal of the Season awards with five incredible strikes nominated for each team.

The men’s nominations include the aforementioned Penha rockets against Macarthur and Victory, Grimaldi’s dramatic go-ahead goal against Macarthur in Tarneit as well as his finish against Perth Glory and Riku Danzaki’s long-range strike from the same game.

Which Western United goals were the best this season? Have your say on Gala Night.

Logarzo also has two goals nominated on the women’s side – her effort from distance against Wellington Phoenix and her excellent second goal against Melbourne Victory.

Kahli Johnson’s screamer against Melbourne City, a Stacey Papadopoulos stunner against Newcastle Jets and Hannah Keane’s bullet header against Wellington Phoenix round out the top five.
