Ironbark Fields a hive of activity over A-Leagues off-season

While the football community in the West will have to wait patiently to watch A-Leagues football at Ironbark Fields again, Western United’s home in Tarneit is buzzing with activity over the off-season.

With the Ironbark Fields name now finally confirmed, the venue has already become a hub for sport and entertainment.

It’s already kicked off this week with the A-League All Stars Men squad using the facilities for training ahead of their huge match against Premier League giants Newcastle United on Friday night.

Western United stars Ben Garuccio and Angus Thurgate along with goalkeeper coach Michael Theo have been showing the squad around with the likes of Nestory Irankunda, Tolgay Arslan and Jay O’Shea set to grace the turf in Tarneit.

Immediately following that will be an incredible event with the Gridiron Australia National Championship Game between Victoria and Queensland being hosted at Ironbark Fields.

Being the first time the National Championship has been held since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s set to be a massive event on Saturday 25 May, kicking off at 11am with the junior’s match and the main event following at 2:30pm.

This will mark the first non-football event hosted a Ironbark Fields and will be one not to be missed for the entire community with free entry, American BBQ food trucks, incredible games of American football and an electric atmosphere.

And even though the A-Leagues season is over for Western United, the Green and Black is still in action in the VPL 1 Men.

The first two Sundays in June will bring two huge home matches for the Western United Senior Academy teams with Preston Lions coming to Tarneit on 2 June and Bentleigh Greens following suit on 9 June.

Diogo Ferreira’s senior side is in fourth place and right in the midst of an intense battle for promotion into NPL Victoria.

The next three weeks will see Western United take on teams in the top five on the table, with two of those taking place at Ironbark Fields.

There’s no better place to be to enjoy entertaining sport than at Ironbark Fields in the coming months. Get on down to the home of Western United and enjoy everything on offer before the A-Leagues squads return for season 2024/25.
