Western United has made a statement signing in the Liberty A-League Women, snapping up Australian Under-23 international goalkeeper Chloe Lincoln.
The 19-year-old arrives from Canberra United and adds to Western United’s legacy of top goalkeepers in the women’s competition, including 2022/23 Goalkeeper of the Year Hillary Beall.
Making her senior debut at 17 years of age in 2022, Lincoln has continued her meteoric rise towards becoming Australia’s brightest goalkeeping talent.
A tall, athletic and intelligent shot stopper, Lincoln has been a regular in the Australian national team pathway, recently winning a bronze medal with the Young Matildas at the AFC U20 Women’s Asian Cup and currently competing in Sweden with the Under-23 national team.
Having visited Ironbark Fields and committed to joining the Green and Black, Lincoln is itching to get started in her new home.
“I am thrilled to be joining Western United next season. It is an amazing club that has had extraordinary success in such a short period of time,” she said.
“I absolutely loved the opportunity to tour the facility recently and was in awe of the vision of the management team and the inclusive way that the men’s and women’s teams are treated as professionals.
“Western United has built a fantastic fanbase already and I can’t wait to feel the energy int eh new stadium.”
Western United head coach Kat Smith hailed Lincoln’s addition as a major coup for her squad and a marker of intent to the rest of the competition.
“Chloe is one of our best young goalkeepers and I am thrilled to have her on board as we look to build towards next season,” she said.
“We are ambitious in reaching for greater heights in the future and Chloe’s qualities as a footballer and as a person align strongly with what we are hoping to achieve.
“She will be a perfect fit for the culture of our group and the quality of what we are looking to build on the pitch, and I can’t wait for the fans to see what she’s about.”
Western United General Manager of Football Mal Impiombato highlighted the Club’s ability to lay down a marker to the competition with the signing of a leading young player.
“Our ability to attract national team players and Australia’s emerging stars is a testament to our commitment to enhance our women’s program year on year,” he said.
Lincoln will be looking to impress in national camp in Sweden before preparing herself to meet her new Western United teammates when pre-season training begins in Tarneit later this year.
