Attempting to get their home winning nature back, the Western United VPL1 side playing against Brunswick City SC fought to jump to second place on the ladder, with the top of the table remaining hot.
The start of the game was even, with both sides having a fair share of chances at taking the lead.
Brunswick took the lead halfway through the first half, with Michael Ruhs not long after, equalising after a shot on goal was parried onto his path in the middle of the box, making the scores 1-1.
The first half showed an even game, both teams looking dangerous, creating a lot of chances, looking towards a promising and entertaining second half.
The game remained at a stalemate for the first half of the second interval, but soon come and Brunswick took the lead later in the second half, with United trailing with around ten minutes to go.
United did everything they could to restore the game and equalise late, but in the end remained behind.
Making it the second home loss of the season, United sits in fourth place, with the gap slowly widening at the top of the ladder with Melbourne Victory sitting 8 points clear of united, two behind Northcote, and one behind Preston.

The Under 18’s went away to Lawton Park Reserve to play Langwarrin, and the Under 14’s played at home against Glen Eira. With the Under 16’s and Under 15’s games being rescheduled for a mid-week date.
The Under 14’s scored the first goal of the game in the first half, with both Glen Eira and United scoring a goal in the second half, leading to a 2-1 win for united.
Taking a 3-0 lead in the first half, the Under 18’s had an amazing start to the game, ultimately scoring another 3 in the second half, with Langwarrin scoring a consolation goal, ending the game off 6-1 to the Green and Black.

Western United Futsal
The men’s competition come to a start with United staying in the Series Futsal Victoria for the 2024/2 season, facing league winners Fitzroy Tigers. With the Under 23’s side also kicking off their season, against FC Carlton Heart.
The women’s team aim to continue their unbeaten streak 2 games into the season, going for their third against FC Preston.
The men’s team started off the new season with a loss against the reigning premiers, starting out strong with a 1-1 score early off in the game, yet conceding a goal a few minutes before half time, trailing 2-1 at the break. Fitzroy scored 2 goals in the second half, eventually leading to a 4-1 loss to United.
United women’s team continued their fine form, beating FC Preston 4-2 in a competitive clash, with Balqis Waljairin securing a late lead, and Golden Boot winner Laila Abdullatif scoring in the final play of the game, to edge the win to a 4-2 final score.
Under 23’s united futsal team also had their first game of the season, securing a 3-1 win over FC Carlton Heart, securing a comfortable win, where Carlton did not score till the final minutes of the game.
