Western United returns to AAMI Park for blockbuster Derbies

Western United A-League Men

Western United will return to AAMI Park for two blockbuster Isuzu UTE A-League Men derbies against local foes Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory.

The first of those is a Cup Eve showdown against Melbourne City on Monday 4 November, kicking off at 7:00pm.

With both clubs now permanently headquartered in the west and east of Melbourne, the ‘West v East’ Derby will be another addition to the volumes of memorable meetings between the two rivals.

Returning to the site of the last Victorian Championship win, United will be eager to repeat the heroics of that 2022 Grand Final and four other huge wins secured over City at AAMI Park.

Undefeated after two matches, John Aloisi’s side is building superbly in the opening weeks of the season and will meet a City side fired up to impress after a defeat in the Melbourne Derby on Saturday.

Western United members will receive ticketing information via email on Tuesday 29 October with tickets on sale on Wednesday 30 October.

United will then return to AAMI Park at the beginning of December, renewing hostilities with old rival Melbourne Victory in a colossal return of the Westgate Derby.

The Green and Black faithful will make the pilgrimage over the Westgate Bridge to Melbourne’s shared football venue to witness one of the best games of football on the calendar, with the game rescheduled to 4:00pm AEDT on Sunday 1 December.

The match will be billed as a showcase for the A-Leagues in Melbourne with Western United working to deliver a premium matchday experience and a bumper crowd at AAMI Park.

Western United’s preference was always to play both fixtures at Ironbark Fields or a venue in the West if the Club’s home in Tarneit was not an option.

While the Club continues to work on developing Ironbark Fields to suit the requirements of major Melbourne derbies, options in Geelong, Ballarat and Footscray were explored before AAMI Park was finally selected due to venue availability and logistics.

United packed Ironbark Fields out yesterday in its first home game for the season, showcasing the Club’s home in Tarneit as a new hotbed for community entertainment and as a top tier football venue.

2024 has been a landmark year for United since moving permanently to Tarneit, hosting A-Leagues and Academy football games, national gridiron championships and bustling community events including a Diwali celebration just this weekend.

For these two marquee matches this season, the Green and Black faithful will march into the city and show the strength and might of the West.
