Western United fans heading on the road to Coopers Stadium

Western United A-League Men Adelaide

Western United supporters will cross the South Australian border in numbers to get behind the boys against Adelaide United on Saturday night.

The Western Service Crew have made it an annual tradition to head to Coopers Stadium for the showdown with the Reds and will be eager to add to some classic memories over the years.

It all started with United’s first ever trip to Adelaide back in March 2020, an afternoon where the Green and Black’s inaugural squad was at its devastating best.

After Besart Berisha’s early opener was quickly cancelled out by Riley McGree, Western United promptly went on a surge with four goals in 24 minutes of matchplay.

Alessandro Diamanti was in outrageous form, scoring the second and helping set up every other goal in arguably the best display of his scintillating Johnny Warren Medal-winning campaign.

Just over three years later, John Aloisi engineered an outstanding win in his hometown in a thrilling, end-to-end affair.

The Green and Black took the lead on that occasion through Connor Pain just before half-time after a lovely move, wheeling away in celebration in front of the travelling United support.

Dylan Pierias – who will feature for Adelaide against Western on Saturday – would have doubled the lead if not for a remarkable Joe Gauci save and Adelaide hit the post in injury time as the action continued until the very end.

There has been plenty of drama in Adelaide with both sides receiving a red card in a tense and controversial meeting in 2021, while Rhys Bozinovski made his professional debut at Coopers Stadium back in 2022.

A familiar face last time we made the trip to Coopers Stadium

Looking ahead to this season’s edition, United will be searching for a first win of the season and a result that would be deserved given three positive performances thus far.

Draws against Wellington Phoenix and Western Sydney Wanderers that could have resulted in more set the foundation for the season in the opening two weeks, while a defeat to Melbourne City on Monday will have the boys in green eager to bounce back.

Join the Western Service Crew for a cracking night of football at Coopers Stadium and get behind the boys on Saturday night.
