Western United fans will have the perfect opportunity to watch the next generation of Green and Black superstars with a special curtain-raiser match on Saturday 15 February.
Ahead of the blockbuster Isuzu UTE A-League Men contest against league-leaders Auckland FC, Andreas Papanicolaou and his Senior Academy side will take centre stage in their VPL 1 Men Round 2 clash against Kingston City.
Kicking off at 3pm AEDT, the young guns of the West will be eager to turn Ironbark Fields into a fortress just as John Aloisi’s first team has done this season.
In 2024, Diogo Ferreira led the Senior Academy side to the highest-scoring season in the entire state and Papanicolaou will be looking to follow suit.
Finishing off pre-season preparations with a win over touring South Hobart FC last weekend, the team is primed for another thrilling season with Round 1 placing the Green and Black against FC Bulleen Lions this coming Monday.
United will be hoping to collect three points from that much to carry into the home opener, putting on a show for the Green and Black supporters ahead of the Isuzu UTE A-League match.
The success of the Club’s Academy pathway has been evident in the Isuzu UTE A-League this season – the likes of Dylan Leonard, Abel Walatee, Matthew Grimaldi and many more Western United Academy talents have been shining in the first team.
A total of nine players have signed their first professional contracts at the Club directly out of the Academy this season, and 12 players since the beginning of the last campaign.
Now, a new-look squad with more enthralling young talents will step up to the plate, ready to play some of the most exciting football in the country and stake their claim for the future.
Ticket holders for the Isuzu UTE A-League clash will be granted access to Ironbark Fields early for the Academy match, with gates open from 2:45pm.Â
