Western United Head Coach John Aloisi said he was “really happy” to see Adisu Bayew score his first senior goal for the Club in Saturday’s 3-2 win over Brisbane Roar.
United had gone behind early in the match but Bayew rose highest to head home a crucial goal from a corner, registering his first ever goal in the Isuzu UTE A-League Men.
Aloisi said he has been looking for his young players to step up in the absence of some experienced campaigners and has been impressed by Bayew’s impact.
“(I’m) really happy because he’s a promising young player. We’ve been playing him a little bit because we’ve been short of numbers, we’ve got some really good experienced players out and you need your young players to perform – and Adisu’s been doing that,” he said in his post-match press conference.
“He’s come into not only the side, but into training, working hard on his game. I’m pleased that he’s a player from the West of Melbourne as well which is great for us.
“He comes from within the Club, from the Academy, he played in NPL 3 last year. It’s great news for the Club and hopefully Adisu keeps on going the way he’s going.”

The 20-year-old made his first four A-League Men appearances at the end of last season and has added a further 11 games to his resume in the 2021/22 campaign, including three starts and with the addition of a maiden Olyroos call-up at the end of last year.
His goal represents the first scored by a player that has come directly from the West of Melbourne and through the Club’s Academy, and Bayew was even just 12 days shy of surpassing Nicolas Milanovic as the Club’s youngest-ever senior goal scorer.

Back in December, Bayew committed himself to having a breakout season with Western United and despite his youth, he has had an impact when called upon throughout United’s excellent campaign to date.
The Green and Black’s No.31 will be eager to find more opportunities to show his talents on the pitch and continue improving as the season draws to a close, with United still pushing at the top of the A-League Men table.
