Player sponsorships an affordable way for SMEs to score big in the A-League

Timing is everything in football. And perhaps also in business?

Just days before his sensational hat-trick on March 1, a western Melbourne SME (small-to-medium enterprise) became the new sponsor of Western United star Max Burgess.

Great timing.

Burgess was the talk of the town, and he was even named in EA SPORTS’ FIFA 20 Team of the Week, a global selection of the best performing players on the planet.

Max

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder scored again last weekend in Adelaide to make it four goals in two games as United surged back into the finals.

Reliance Partners Insurance Brokers in Hoppers Crossing are the new sponsors of Burgess.

And in their first game as his sponsor, the SME got to sit in the Chairman’s Club lounge and watch him hit three stunning goals in just 19 minutes.

“As a small local business, I didn’t think there would be an opportunity to become involved in an A-League team,” said Joel Reyes from Reliance Partners Insurance Brokers in Hoppers Crossing.

“But Western United Football Club provided a package to cater for my budget. As a player sponsor for a young, exciting and promising player in Max Burgess, it was a reflection on our up-and-coming local business.

“The community focus Western United FC is a perfect partnership for us.”
