As a Western United fan, there are FOUR things you need to know right now about the 2019/2020 Hyundai A-League draw.
1. WESTERN UNITED’S FIRST EVER COMPETITIVE MATCH.
Our first ever official competitive debut will be away to the Wellington Phoenix in the first round of the 2019/20 season. Our Head Coach – Mark Rudan – played a key role in returning the Phoenix to the finals in 2019 and will certainly know what his new squad can expect when they make the trip across the Tasman.
2. THERE’S NO PLACE LIKE HOME.
A city steeped in sporting history and prowess; we’ll be proud to call Geelong our home for season 2019/20. This season Western United will be playing nine matches from Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium, starting from the second round. Matches to lock in the diary today include clashes against local Victorian rivals Melbourne City and Melbourne Victory on the 27th of October and 8th of December, respectively.
3. WE’LL STRIKE GOLD FOUR TIMES IN BALLARAT.
Everyone needs a home away from home, and we can’t wait to get to play in Ballarat. We’ll have four home matches in the ‘rat based at MARS Stadium two of which will be our second time hosting Melbourne City and Western Sydney Wanderers. The City clash is one to pencil in as a must-do, falling on Good Friday – it’s the perfect opportunity for an Easter long weekend holiday. The remaining two matches will be up against Queensland’s Brisbane Roar and New Zealand’s Wellington Phoenix.
4. BACK-TO-BACK VICTORIAN DERBIES
We’ll come face-to-face with Melbourne City in the third round, at home in Geelong. They’ll be coming up against familiar faces in Connor Chapman, Dylan Pierias, James Delianov and Josh Cavallo. Let the games begin. The following round will see us taking on the might of Melbourne Victory at Marvel Stadium in our first Victorian match away from home. We’ll be relying on you to bring the thunder in a huge fortnight of football for the Western United boys.
