Hyundai A-League great Archie Thompson believes Western United’s depth is strong enough to deliver Finals football in their first season.
The popular one-time A-League goal machine visited United’s training base today.
And he was impressed by what he saw as the team continued their preparations for October’s A-League kick-off.
“I think they’ll make finals. They’ve got a good squad with depth,” the former Socceroo and A-League championship winner with Victory told www.wufc.com.au
“Any team that does well in the A-League, you need depth.
“They’ve recruited really well, you then look at the coaching staff.
“They have a wealth of knowledge about football, in Australia.
“Guys like Ante Moric, JA [John Anastasiadis], John Hutchinson, Frank Juric, and Massimo Murdocca in the fitness department.
“All great guys with so much knowledge lead by Mark Rudan, who’s one of the best.”
United’s Caroline Springs training base also caught Archie’s eye. Proof again that the game’s future is getting stronger.
“It’s amazing. You look at Western Sydney too, with theirs. Great facilities and great professionalism.
“There is all this negativity around football but look at this training centre?” he said.
“You’ve got clubs partnering with councils to put money into their brand and creating professional environments.
“I think our sport is actually in a really good place.”
