Western United history maker Besart Berisha has praised the club’s culture and mentality leading into the Green and Black’s first home game.

Berisha, whose name entered the record books on Sunday by scoring United’s first-ever goal in the Hyundai A-League, believes the Green and Black have the right personnel and mentality to impress in 2019/20.

“The most important thing we’ve worked on is to have a great culture in this club and team mentality,” Berisha said.

“And I thought we showed it in Wellington, early in the season. We want to create a great mentality here and definitely players like Diamanti, Kone, and McDonald… they will help us.

“And experienced players like Dura [Andrew Durante], Ersan [Gulum] – they will all help us to create this culture and I believe that we have a great team with a great mentality and a great fighting spirit so I hope it will be great.”

Berisha’s goal helped United to a famous and impressive 1-0 win over Phoenix on Sunday.

Berisha has also been very impressed by head coach Mark Rudan, who he believes shares similar ambitions and who played a big part in luring the A-League goal-scoring legend to Melbourne’s west.

“I had great talks with Mark before I came here. He’s a coach I really always preferred to have.

“He’s a coach who works so hard to achieve and to win and I really enjoy working with Mark.

“I love characters like Mark. Hungry coaches who want to achieve, win games and create history. I love to be part of this.

“I’ve been with similar coaches like Mark before and they never accept losing. They always drive every day more and more to achieve great things and I love it.”
