Besart Berisha wants to create history with his new club Western United, declaring he is ready to do his best for fans in the West.

Western United confirmed the signing of one of the Hyundai A-League’s greatest strikers on Saturday.

Berisha joined his new teammates for the first time at the club’s Caroline Springs training base, and he liked what he saw of the facilities.

And with the season kicking off next month, the legendary A-League striker is buzzing to get started in the Green and Black.

“Firstly, I’m really excited to be back in the A-League and with Western United,” he told www.wufc.com.au

“A new club and a new challenge and the club are hungry for the new season to create history together with our fans.

“It’s a new club and I think it was time for a new club to come to Melbourne’s West.

“Melbourne is so big and they love football here, and it’s really exciting having a third team.

“For me, the most exciting thing to come to Western United was that it was a new team, a new club and working with Mark Rudan, a hard-working coach who really wants to create history.

“I decide to come here because I want to keep winning games and trophies, and this is why I chose Western United.”

Berisha is the A-League’s all-time top goalscorer with 116 goals in 186 games.

The 34-year-old has spent the last 14 months in Japan’s top flight with Sanfrecce Hiroshima.

Berisha has scored in four A-League Grand Finals for both Melbourne Victory and Brisbane Roar.

“The A-League means a lot to me. I joined the A-League after a difficult time in Europe and it was really the breakthrough for me and A-League has done well for me.

“I’m very thankful for this country and the A-League, but this is why I chose to come back.”

And Berisha cannot wait to start combining on the pitch with Western United’s two big attacking imports, Panagiotis Kone and Alessandro Diamanti.

“Experienced players, both. Very smart players. And knowing to join these two players, two of many good players at Western United.

“I played many times against many of the players at Western United particularly their defenders.

“And I’m now happy they are on my side now.”
