Big Day Out in Ballarat

We’ve waited three long weeks but our first A-League Men home match is finally here this Saturday when we take on interstate rivals Newcastle Jets.

We need our WUFC family to make some noise as we battle for a crucial three points. Kids go FREE this Saturday so come along to Mars Stadium with the whole family for some football and fun.

The Match:  Western United v Newcastle Jets

Western United plays host to Newcastle Jets at Mars Stadium for the third season in a row, with this clash set to bring just as much entertainment as the previous two versions.

The Green and Black defeated Newcastle 2-1 in Ballarat on the way to the Championship in 2021/22 before an entertaining 1-1 draw last season which featured a stunning strike from Lachie Wales.

After failing to score in any of the first three fixtures against the Jets, United has failed to lose any of the following six meetings with four wins and two draws since April 2021.

That strong record against the Jets is coupled with a positive recent run of results at Mars Stadium, with United losing just one of the last five fixtures at the venue.

This match will have a number of extra storylines on the pitch with reunions on both sides. Angus Thurgate and Daniel Penha will play against Newcastle Jets for the first time while United will welcome back former goalkeeper Ryan Scott.

Newcastle have been involved in three thrilling matches to start the new season – they scored an injury time equaliser to draw 2-2 with Perth Glory in Round 1, went down 5-3 in a crazy Round 2 clash against Melbourne Victory and had another 2-2 tie last week against Western Sydney Wanderers.

If that is anything to go by, and judging by Western United’s serious attacking talent, this game is bound to bring goals galore for the Ballarat faithful to enjoy.

The Unite and WIN promotion, presented by Teqball Australia, challenges community clubs from the west to gather their players, friends and families and attend the three matches to be in the running to win some fantastic prizes, including the major prize of a Teqball table valued at $3,000.
