Charbel Shamoon will take another step up at Western United after inking new terms for a second season at Ironbark Fields.
The 21-year-old full-back was outstanding in his first full professional campaign last term, racking up 17 appearances and 13 starts.
Called into action on the eve of the season opener due to an injury to Ben Garuccio, Shamoon stood up to the test with aplomb.

His all-round ability both with and without the ball was a key contributor to United’s record-breaking season and also earned him plenty of individual plaudits.
On the back of his club form, Shamoon earned a first call-up to the Australia Under 23’s in November last year and went one better in March when he made his senior debut for Iraq.
Signing on for another season at Western United, Shamoon is keen to increase his levels even further and contribute to further team success in 2025/26.
“I’m more motivated than ever for this second season at Western. I had a great time this past season, achieving some personal goals and really getting comfortable in the team and the league,” he said.
“I think motivation will be at an all-time high for the whole Club because of how well we did last season and how close we came to achieving silverware. We will have that same ambition this season too.
“I want to keep developing as a player and continue to grow as much as I can, and do what I can for the team to hopefully achieve some silverware.”
Western United General Manager of Football Mal Impiombato hailed Shamoon’s debut season and is looking forward to more.
“Charbel typified the mantra of being ready for any opportunity that comes before you, seizing the chance that he had in his debut year in the first team and excelling,” he said.
“Watching his progression from our Academy into the senior side has been a delight for all the staff and we are incredible proud of Charbel’s work and his development as a footballer and a young man.
“With a season now under his belt, we are all looking forward to seeing Charbel continue to grow and impress the fans at Ironbark Fields.”

Shamoon will be eager to get stuck in to pre-season training when the squad reconvenes in Tarneit this week.
The youngster will also have eyes on a return to the Iraqi side as they hope to secure qualification to next year’s FIFA World Cup via the play-offs.
