Daniel Penha will take centre stage against Europe’s elite after being selected in the A-League All Stars Men squad to take on Newcastle United next month.
The Western United star is the first player to be announced in the team, which was voted for by the fans, alongside Adelaide United and soon-to-be Bayern Munich star Nestory Irankunda.
Making his return to Australian football after a year away, Penha has once again proven himself as one of the Isuzu UTE A-League Men’s best and most exciting players.
The Brazilian maestro has scored seven goals this season, including some phenomenal strikes against Macarthur FC and Melbourne Victory.
His flair and creativity are evidently a treat to watch for fans across the league, seeing Penha voted into the All Stars once again.
Western United General Manager of Football Mal Impiombato congratulated Penha on his selection and will be eagerly watching on.
“We are delighted for Daniel to receive this recognition for his performances this season. It is a special opportunity to represent the All Stars against one of Europe’s elite teams in Newcastle United,” he said.
“We are especially proud of Daniel for how he has returned to the pitch after a long-term injury, showing the same commitment, enthusiasm and talent that earned him an All Stars call-up last time as well.
“Everyone at the Club congratulates Daniel on this achievement, and we can’t wait to watch on as he takes to the pitch next month.”
Penha will be no stranger to the All Stars environment after he sparkled at the previous edition of the exhibition event against FC Barcelona in 2022.
In front of a bumper crowd in Sydney, Penha had a huge hand in the All Stars’ first goal against the Spanish heavyweights, turning sublimely in midfield before playing a brilliant through ball which ultimately created the goal.
Tickets are on sale now for the historic All Stars double header on Friday 24 May at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.
The men’s squad will take on Newcastle United at 5:15pm before the women’s team faces Matildas stars Caitlin Foord, Steph Catley, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Arsenal at 8:05pm.
