Western United’s first-ever Victorian derby in the Hyundai A-League happens this Sunday when the Green and Black takes on Melbourne City at Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium.
History was made on the weekend when United played at home for the first time in the competition, drawing 1-1 with reigning premiers Perth Glory at GMHBA.
United is set to make more history when it faces one of its Victorian rivals.
Mark Rudan’s squad features six players who once wore the sky blue of Melbourne City.
Connor Chapman played three seasons at AAMI Park and was a core member of the 2016 FFA Cup winning team.
Youngsters Dylan Pierias, Josh Cavallo, James Delianov and Luke Duzel all swapped sky blue for green and black during the off-season.
Meanwhile, experienced defender Brendan Hamill spent two seasons at the then ‘Melbourne Heart’.
United will enter the game with confidence after picking up four points from a possible six in its first two games.
The Green and Black will play six derbies this season with three of those coming at home.
Following City, Western United will head to Marvel Stadium for a Saturday night blockbuster against Melbourne Victory.
