Western United duo Grace Maher and Alana Cerne have received yet more recognition for their outstanding seasons, earning selection in the A-League All Stars Women squad.
Having played the entire season together at centre-back, Maher and Cerne will now stand alongside each other against English powerhouse Arsenal FC and their Matildas trio Steph Catley, Caitlin Foord and Kyra Cooney-Cross.
The Western United teammates will also be joining up with head coach Kat Smith who will serve as an assistant coach with the All Stars team.
Western United General Manager of Football Mal Impiombato praised the pair for being role models for the Club on the big stage.
“We are delighted for Grace and Alana to receive this opportunity. It will be special for them to test themselves against some of the world’s best and we can’t wait to see them in action,” he said.
“We are extremely proud of both of them as they continue to represent our Club with great distinction both on and off the pitch, giving our young fans people to aspire to follow.
“With the match taking place here in Melbourne, I hope that there is plenty of Green and Black in the stands to encourage our girls on this grand occasion.”
This recognition comes as both players received awards at the Western United Gala on Wednesday night.
Cerne took out the Young Player of the Season award for the second season in a row, while Maher claimed the Club Person of the Season honour and finished second in the Player of the Season voting.
