Western United has strengthened its defensive ranks with the signing of Jacob Tratt on a one-year deal ahead of the 2022/23 Isuzu UTE A-League Men season.

The 27-year-old arrives after playing for Adelaide United last season, including one appearance in the Finals Series.

After putting pen to paper on his new deal, Tratt said he is eager to get to work with the A-League Men Champions and contribute this season.

“I feel really privileged to join the current Champions and I’m really excited to get to work with my new teammates,” he said.

“Watching Western United’s defence last season really impressed me and I’m eager to be a part of it alongside so many great players and professionals.

“I can’t wait to play under John Aloisi and all the coaches and I’m just keen to get going and play in front of the fans.”

Western United Head Coach John Aloisi said Tratt’s quality and experience in the competition will provide a welcome boost to the Green and Black’s defence.

“Jacob joins us with over 50 games in the league and a Championship under his belt, so his know-how and ability at the back will be a great addition for us,” he said.

“We love his versatility – he can play anywhere across the back four and can be a real asset in the box at both ends with his height and aerial prowess.

“I’m looking forward to welcoming Jacob into the group and seeing him help us throughout this season.”

Tratt was part of Sydney FC’s Championship-winning team in 2019, playing nine matches and also representing the Sky Blues in the AFC Asian Champions League.

The defender has also played for Wellington Phoenix and Perth Glory and spent a season in India where he lined up for Odisha FC.

Tratt joins James Troisi in signing for the Green and Black before the upcoming campaign and will join his new teammates in pre-season preparations.
