Josh Risdon can cap off a spectacular week for himself by reaching the 200-game milestone in the A-League Men competition this weekend.
After featuring prominently in Western United’s 1-0 win over Melbourne City, Risdon put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension to stay in Green and Black and will now take to the pitch for the 200th time if called upon by John Aloisi.
Risdon was a member of United’s inaugural squad, becoming the first Australian player to be signed by the club ahead of its first ever season in 2019.
His performances in that first season were a big reason why the side got within one match of the Grand Final, with seven assists and a goal making him a key contributor to United finishing fifth on the table and winning its first finals match.
While the 2020/21 season was a difficult one due to injury, Risdon has returned in top shape and re-found the form that has seen him play 14 times for the Socceroos, including at the 2018 World Cup.
His leadership and quality throughout pre-season saw John Aloisi name Risdon as the Club’s vice-captain, a role that he has taken on with great accomplishment in the early part of the campaign.

Still at 29 years of age, there remains plenty of football at the top level left to be played for Risdon, with a potential return to the national team fold and domestic success with Western United motivating him to continue to develop and put his best foot forward.
The Club wishes to congratulate Risdon for what has been a fine career to date, but continues to look forward to the further impact he will have on Western United both on and off the pitch as a leader in the community.
United fans can celebrate Risdon’s impact on the side by cheering him on at GMHBA Stadium as the Green and Black takes on Brisbane Roar, with kick-off at 5:05pm on Saturday December 11. Secure your tickets now.
