Match Preview: Melbourne City vs Western United

After opening the season on 28 December against Adelaide United, Western United will finally play its second match this Saturday when they take on Melbourne City at AAMI Park.

The Green and Black will have had almost three weeks without a competitive fixture when they face their Victorian rivals and will be hoping to break their duck against City, having gone down in all four attempts last season.

Their most recent defeat at the hands of City was in last season’s semi-final, losing 2-0 at Bankwest Stadium in Sydney.

United Head Coach Mark Rudan said his side are looking forward to playing for points this Saturday.

“We’ve trained together for a couple of weeks in preparation for this game. It will be a tough one but we can’t wait to get back into a stadium and play for points again,” Rudan said.

United go into this week’s match with one point after playing out a scoreless draw in matchweek one against Adelaide at GMHBA Stadium, Geelong.

Meanwhile, City has picked up three points from two games, having defeated Brisbane Roar in matchweek one, before losing to Adelaide United in matchweek two.

Tickets for Saturday’s clash are available on Ticketek, or you can watch it live on Fox Sports, Kayo, or the MyFootball Live app.
