We go again in season one.

I’d like to firstly thank all of you for your patience during these unprecedented trying and life changing times. We have all faced challenges as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic but together we are coming out stronger and more resilient than ever.

We are thrilled that football is returning. It has been 101 days since we last played and I know everyone in the Western United family can’t wait to see the team back out on the pitch as we push for a finals spot in our debut season.

And what a game to return to.

Thursday 16th July, we take on our local rival Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park to launch the restart of the 2019/20 season.  We’ve shown Victory and their fans twice already this season that the boys from the west have finally arrived – and we are ready to do it again. Let’s go.

The remainder of the season will be exciting with 27 matches in 28 days plus the finals series.

The players and coaches are excited and will recommence training tomorrow after completing COVID testing yesterday.

For the fans, we are still working with our broadcast partners Fox Sports and ABC TV to determine next steps, we will update you on this as soon as possible as well as any possibility of fans being able to attend matches live.

We all know that the pandemic is far from over, so again, I thank everyone in the Western United family for their patience and I know that you’ll continue with this support through this next phase.

Not even the best fiction author could have penned this plot to our inaugural season – what a journey we’ve all been on; strap in tight – it’s going to be a fast and furious finish!

Stay United.
