More fans to enjoy live football as Geelong’s GMHBA Stadium increases capacity limits

Western United and Kardinia Park Trust are delighted to confirm that capacity limits have been increased to 50% for the upcoming 2021/22 Isuzu A-League Men season opener.

This means more fans will be able to enjoy live football in Geelong at GMHBA Stadium.

Western United will host Melbourne Victory on Saturday, November 20 with the stadium able to host up to 12,906 fans.

Tickets are on sale here.

The announcement comes after positive dialog between the Club, Kardinia Park Stadium Trust and the Victorian Government following the end of the state-wide COVID-19 lockdown.

Western United CEO Chris Pehlivanis said the result was a welcome boost to kick-off the season and called for all Western United supporters to show their colours at the ground.

“It’s fantastic that Victoria is opening up again and I am so pleased we’ve been able to work with the Kardinia Park Stadium Trust to give more fans the chance to enjoy live football,” he said.

“It’s been a long time without our wonderful fans in the stadium and I know the whole Club is looking forward to welcoming them back.”

Kardinia Park Stadium Trust CEO, Gerard Griffin commented:

“After a long break between matches we look forward to hosting Western United’s opening game for the 2021/2022 A-League season.”

In further good news, fans can watch Western United take on Newcastle Jets in an FFA Cup qualifier match on Saturday 13 November at GMHBA Stadium. All Western United members will be able to watch the game free of charge as part of a special addition to their membership.

Tickets for the FFA Cup qualifier match will go on sale on Monday November 8.

Western United return to GMHBA Stadium for the first time since January, 2021 when they secured a remarkable 5-4 win against Perth Glory.

GMHBA Stadium has happy memories for United, with the Club’s first ever home match being played there in October 2019, also against Perth.

United is currently on an unbeaten run of five games and counting in Geelong, with four wins in that time including one against Melbourne Victory in December 2019.
