Last time out
Western United earned a hard fought 1-0 win over Werribee City last time out thanks to a late penalty from Matthew Grimaldi.
The United midfielder tucked away his second goal of the season to hand the side a big three points at one of the toughest away venues on the NPL 2 fixture.
United’s Under 21’s side secured a thumping 6-0 win earlier on in the day to continue its perfect start to the season.
Goals from five different scorers set the Green and Black on its way to another big win, keeping Vaughan Coveny’s team at the top of the table.
The Opponent
Manningham United have enjoyed a strong start to the season, splitting their first six matches with two wins, two draws and two defeats.
Manningham finished just four points above the relegation play-off places last season and have begun the new campaign well with particularly impressive performances to beat Pascoe Vale and draw with Preston Lions.
A win would take the Blues to within a point of Western United as they continue to build momentum in the first half of the season.
Junior Academy sides enter penultimate grading round
Western United’s Junior Academy sides are off to Ballarat this weekend to take on Ballarat City at Morshead Park on Sunday.
All four sides will be aiming for victory, with the Under 14’s and Under 16’s already mathematically having secured a place in the top three on the table and, as a result, a spot in the top division after the grading period.
A win for the Under 18’s this weekend would confirm their place while the Under 15’s can jump into second place and almost all but wrap up a top division place.
