Last time out

Western United’s two-game winning run came to a halt in NPL 2 as the side fell to a 2-1 defeat against Brunswick City last time out.

Max Bisetto cancelled out Brunswick’s opener just before half-time but the visitors regained the lead soon after the interval and held onto the three points.

Despite the loss, United moved up to first on the table on goal difference after Preston Lions’ defeat to Werribee City, and the Green and Black will hope to hold onto first place against Pascoe Vale.

United’s Under 21’s continued to recapture their momentum with a second straight win, defeating Brunswick City 2-0.

Thomas Alisandratos scored another two goals to continue his brilliant season as Vaughan Coveny’s side remain on Melbourne City’s tail at the top of the league.

The Opponent

Pascoe Vale have been stuck in a slump in NPL 2 Victoria and will be aiming to end a run of five straight defeats on Friday night.

After winning each of their first three matches – one of which was against Western United – Pascoe Vale have won just two of their next 12 and have slipped to third bottom on the table.

Having finished third in NPL 2 last season, this season hasn’t quite gone to plan so far but Pascoe Vale remain a dangerous opponent and will be out to complete a double over United.

Pascoe Vale’s Under 21’s have enjoyed a much more positive season, sitting in third place with 10 wins in the opening 15 rounds.

United managed a 2-0 win last time out and will look for a similar result against tough opposition with the race at the top of the division getting ever closer.

Western United Junior Academy sides spread across the state

Western United’s Junior Academy teams will each head on the road in different directions this weekend, looking for another positive rounds of results.

The Under 14’s will stay in the West to take on Altona Magic, while the Under 15’s head to the north-east for a matchup against Northcote City.

The Under 16’s and Under 18’s sides will keep each other confident in Caulfield as they take on South Melbourne.

With the season now through its first quarter, all four teams will be eager to continue their development and secure important points on the board.

Calder United hosts Box Hill United to kick off second half of the season

Calder United is beginning to hit its straps in NPLW Victoria and will go in search of a second straight win when Box Hill United travel to Keilor Park Recreation Reserve on Saturday.

This fixture will mark the beginning of the second half of the campaign, with these two sides having played out a 3-3 draw on the opening night of the season in March.

With Helen Winterburn on international duty with the Young Matildas, Nathan Maiorana oversaw an impressive 6-2 win over Bayside United last time out and will hope for a repeat performance against Box Hill this weekend, themselves coming off a strong win against Preston Lions.

Calder’s Under 19’s got back to winning ways last week and will hope to follow up their 4-2 win over Box Hill in Round 1.

Andy Burnett’s squad returned to second place on the table and will continue to push NTC U17 at the top of the league through the second half of the campaign.
