Last time out

It was a brilliant win for Western United’s Under 23’s last time out as they travelled to Eastern Lions and came away with a 2-0 win.

Zac Kocankovski scored his first goal of the season early on in the match before Oliver Lavale wrapped it up with his second goal in as many matches in the closing stages.

Diogo Ferreira’s side remains level on points with Preston Lions at the top of the table, opening a three-point gap on Eastern in third.

United’s Under 21’s got back to winning ways with an important result last weekend, also keeping a clean sheet in a 1-0 triumph over Eastern Lions.

Thomas Alisandratos scored his 11th goal of the season and that was all Vaughan Coveny’s team needed to secure the win and return to the winner’s list.

The Opponent

Brunswick City have distance themselves from any relegation conversation in recent weeks with a string of top results.

After a winless run of five matches, Brunswick City have bounced back with three wins in the subsequent five matches, including brilliant victories against aforementioned promotion hopefuls Preston and Eastern Lions.

Striker Dimitri Hatzimouratis has scored seven times so far this season to sit just one goal behind the golden boot leader, so United’s defence will be on high alert to stop him finding the net.

Brunswick’s recent form makes them one of the toughest sides to beat in NPL 2 Victoria, and United will need to be at its best to repeat the 2-1 win from Round 2.

Their Under 21’s have had a more positive beginning to the campaign, sitting in sixth place with six wins through the opening 14 rounds.

United won 6-0 last time out and will hope to build on last week’s win to regain its momentum in this season.

Western United Junior Academy back at home for Round 5

The JBNPL 1 seasons are already approaching their fifth round as Western United’s teams each return home to Alcock Road Reserve.

After a strong showing across the board against Melbourne City last week, the four sides will each face different opposition this weekend.

The Under 15’s and Under 16’s will have mini western derbies on their hands with Brimbank Stallions and Caroline Springs George Cross their respective opponents, while the Under 14’s meet Moreland City and the Under 18’s take on Port Melbourne.

All four teams will be out to pick up maximum points to continue marching up their respective league tables.

Calder United plays host to Bayside United

The first half of a topsy-turvy NPLW Victoria season comes to an end for Calder United with a home fixture against Bayside United on Sunday afternoon.

Calder is unbeaten in four matches for the first time this season but will be looking to escape a run of draws with each of the last three fixtures ending in 1-1 scorelines.

Helen Winterburn and Nathan Maoirana’s side is coming off a win over Clifton Hill in the NIKE F.C. Cup and will hope to carry that confidence into a clash against what is a resurgent Bayside outfit.

With four wins through the first nine games seeing them in fourth place, Bayside have quadrupled their win total from the previous 33 matches encompassing the 2022 season and the 12 games prior to the season’s suspension in 2021.

Calder’s Under 19’s will be desperate to arrest a three-game losing streak and return to contention at the top of the table, with NTC U17 having stretched nine points clear.
