Last time out

Western United enjoyed a perfect weekend for the second straight round to begin the 2023 season with a first away trip of the campaign against Brunswick City.

Vaughan Coveny’s Under 21’s carried on from the 9-2 thumping they handed to Eastern Lions in Round 1 with another commanding display for a 6-0 win.

Gus Greer set the tone early before Thomas Alisandratos took over, completing his hat-trick inside the last 10 minutes to guide the Green and Black to victory.

The Under 23’s followed suit in a tight contest, one which saw Obiora Eze score his first Under 23’s goal with the opener in the 34th minute.

Brunswick City hit back late in the second half and looked like they might have stolen a point, but Max Bisetto emerged off the bench to give United all three points.

The Opponent

Pascoe Vale FC have entered the 2023 NPL 2 Victoria season as a favourite to fight for promotion having fallen just short last season.

A third-placed finish saw the side just four points outside the top two and ultimately a ticket into the top division of Victorian NPL football.

They have emerged through a difficult opening two weeks of the season with two victories, defeating newly promoted Preston Lions and Dandenong City who were relegated from NPL Victoria last season.

Pascoe Vale and Western United will both be out to make it three from three to start the season and continue to build momentum for the remainder of the campaign.

Junior Academy sides back at home to face Melbourne Knights

Western United’s Junior Academy teams will return home to Saltwater Reserve in Point Cook, welcoming Melbourne Knights in Round 5.

All four teams remain in the top three positions on their respective league tables with just one loss across the sides through the opening four weeks of the season.

Melbourne Knights will provide a particularly stern test for the Under 16’s and Under 18’s team, with wins for the opposition in those matches taking them above United on the ladder.
