Report: Western United fall to Newcastle Jets

Western United were aiming for a third consecutive win when it took on the Newcastle Jets at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday night.

Connor Pain and Scott McDonald went close early on as United started brightly.

But the Jets were able to work themselves into the game, troubling United keeper Filip Kurto on numerous occasions.

Ernie Merrick’s side found themselves in front when Dimi Petratos played in Angus Thurgate who finished past Filip Kurto.

United thought they had their equaliser in the second half when Josh Risdon headed home, but Besart Berisha was shown to be offside in the build-up.

The Green and Black weren’t able to find a way through as the Jets held on for the 1-0 win.

7’ CHANCE – There’s a scramble inside the Jets’ penalty area but no United player can get a shot away.

16’ CHANCE – Scott McDonald’s cross almost finds the back of the net. It goes just wide.

31’ CHANCE – A double save from Filip Kurto prevents the Jets out from opening the scoring.

32’ CHANCE – Dimi Petratos’ effort from a tight angle goes wide.

36’ GOAL – Dimi Petratos plays in Angus Thurgate who finishes past Kurto to open the scoring. 1-0 Jets.

65’ CHANCE – Alessandro Diamanti’s free-kick deflects off the wall and goes out for a corner.

70’ DISSALOWED GOAL – Josh Risdon gets on the end of a Diamanti cross and heads home, but it’s ruled out for offside.

73’ CHANCE – Connor Pain gets in behind but is kept out by Jets keeper Glen Moss.

90′ CHANCE – Max Burgess well-hit strike sails just over the bar.
