Two double-headers pencilled in for Macca’s Festival Of Football

The Macca’s Festival Of Football will feature some of Victoria and Tasmania’s best local talent, with double-headers scheduled prior to each of Western United’s A-League matches.

There will be two matches played at UTAS Stadium in Launceston prior to United’s clash with Central Coast Mariners on Saturday, 17 April.

New club Launceston United will take on Olympia FC Warriors in the Women’s Super League at 11:45am.

At 2:15pm, reigning NPL Tasmania champions Devonport Strikers will face Kingborough Lions.

On Thursday, 22 April, Western United’s partner club, Calder United will headline the double-header.

Calder United’s Under 19’s will take the pitch in Launceston at 1:45pm, venue TBA, before the senior side play at UTAS Stadium at 4:15pm.

They’ll face a Tasmanian select side in both matches.

Calder United Senior Coaches Mark Torcaso and Ian Williamson believe the team will gain a valuable experience in Tasmania.

“This is a unique opportunity to continue the experiences of travelling in a group and allowing the players to get to know each other in different situations,” Torcaso and Williamson said.

“What they will gain just from the time away will give them an insight into what it’s like to be a professional.

“We are expecting keen enthusiastic competition and, in the meantime, keeping an eye on some talent for the future.

“We have travelled a few times to Tassie in the past and have had great experiences. We are really looking forward to this opportunity.”

The Macca’s Festival Of Football is headlined by Western United’s A-League matches against Central Coast Mariners and Wellington Phoenix.

The best way to be part of the festival is by purchasing a Macca’s Festival Of Football Pass. Passes are now on sale for just $49 for an adult, $20 for a child, or you can bring the whole family for $98.
