Western United has snapped up another one of the top young talents in Victorian football, securing the signature of midfielder Emily Roach for the 2024/25 Ninja A-League Women season.
Roach is fresh from representing Victoria at the Battle of the States against Queensland, her home state, scoring a goal on the day.
The 21-year-old earned that selection after starring in NPLW Victoria for South Melbourne having made her Ninja A-League debut a year prior.
Roach racked up seven appearances in the 2022/23 season across stints with Canberra United and Newcastle Jets and will now return to the professional game with Western United.
Ahead of joining her new teammates in Tarneit, Roach is looking to make an impact and help the Green and Black fight for silverware.
“I am incredibly excited to sign with Western United. Joining a team chasing success gives me a huge amount of motivation to push myself and work hard to contribute to our goals,” she said.
“I’m really excited to play in front of the fans at our home in Tarneit. Their passion and energy will definitely make the experience even more special and I look forward to contribution to the Club’s success on the field.”
Western United Head Coach Kat Smith praised Roach’s all-round ability and expects her to be an excellent addition to her side.
“Emily has shown her talent in various opportunities across the country and we are excited to unlock her full potential here at Ironbark Fields,” she said.
“She is a strong athlete with versatility in a number of positions, equally capable defensively as she is when popping up in the box to score a goal.
“Those talents will add to and complement a fantastic midfield group that we have and I look forward to watching her grow with us in Green and Black.”
Roach has joined her new teammates in pre-season at Ironbark Fields this week as preparations begin for a massive season in Tarneit.
Western United fans will be counting down the days until Round 1 with the Green and Black set to open the season at Ironbark Fields against Wellington Phoenix on Friday 1 November.
