Western United ALW Team News: Round 16 vs Brisbane Roar

Aimee Medwin Western United

Aimee Medwin could make her return to professional football after being named in Western United’s extended squad for Sunday’s Liberty A-League Women Round 16 clash against Brisbane Roar.

The 24-year-old has been out for almost 12 months after rupturing her ACL with United last year, but the talented Tasmanian has completed her recovery and features in Kat Smith’s extended squad for the first time.

The left-footer developed into a key player over her nine appearance for the Green and Black last season, and she will hope to hit the ground running again if she features on matchday.

Medwin enters a stacked depth chart on Western United’s left flank, one which is further strengthened again by Tyla Jay Vlajnic’s return.

Vlajnic was in the extended squad last week but fell just short of making the trip to Hobart. The Serbian international has enjoyed another week of training and will be hoping to make her way back into the line-up.

Fresh from her recall to the Matildas for the first time in more than a year, Chloe Logarzo will be out to add another to her list of outstanding performances this season.

The No.6 is set to go head-to-head with Brisbane’s Tameka Yallop in midfield before joining her in Matildas camp in a matter of weeks.

Having been named in the extended squad in the past two games while not featuring on matchday, Catherine Zimmerman has suffered a minor setback in her return to playing but will hope to be in the frame for selection again in the coming weeks.
