Western United bids farewell to A-League Women contingent

Western United A-League Women

Western United will bid a fond farewell to six members of its Liberty A-League Women squad ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Foundation player Emma Robers will not return to the Club at the conclusion of her contract, departing with the fifth-most appearances for the Club’s women’s team (36).

Three of those 36 appearances came in each of United’s finals matches across the two seasons, while Robers’ crowning moment came with a spectacular injury-time winner against Adelaide United in season one.

Tyla Jay Vlajnic made just one appearance fewer than Robers and will also call time on her two-year stint with the Green and Black.

The Serbian international scored three goals and provided five assists in her time, adding quality and valuable experience to the squad in its first two seasons.

Fellow foundation player Natasha Dakic will also depart the Green and Black after playing 15 times in defence.

The athletic centre-back enjoyed her best run when she featured prominently as part of a back three when United won three straight matches at the beginning of 2024.

After her first season in professional football, Lucy Richards will bid farewell to United with seven appearances under her belt and an assist in an away win over Adelaide United.

Young duo Raquel Deralas and Silver Bell Morris will also depart Western United having initially joined ahead of the Club’s first season in the competition.

A series of unfortunate injury issues prevented both players from ever featuring in the Liberty A-League, but they will forever remain valuable pieces of the Club’s foundation squad.

Western United General Manager of Football Mal Impiombato thanked each player for their contributions in helping to build the Club’s women’s program.

“On behalf of myself and everyone at the Club, I would like to thank each player for their valuable contribution to the Club,” he said.

“Creating our women’s program from scratch has been an incredible task, and the work of these players throughout the two years has been integral to the early success we have experienced.

“I wish each of these ladies all the very best in their next steps and hope they will remain fond of the time they had at Western United.”

Western United is continuing to shape its Liberty A-League roster with pre-season training right around the corner ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

Kat Smith has already welcomed four new signings into the squad – Philippines star Sara Eggesvik, Young Matildas Chloe Lincoln and Sasha Grove and 17-year-old local talent Alana Cortellino – with more to come as the side plots another successful season.
