In just its second year in Series Futsal Victoria, Western United won the Series Futsal Victoria Youth title in both seasons in 2024, while the women’s side also won the 2024 State Futsal Under-23 Championship.

In a replay of the first Clubs Cup final of 2024, United got off to the perfect start when Sakha Waljairin scored a mesmerising solo goal, dribbling the entire Moreland defence before even rounding the goalkeeper and slotting into an empty net.

That goal set the tone for the Green and Black as Waljairin added a second and Angus Angelatos scored two of his own to give the team a 4-2 lead heading into half-time.

Waljairin completed a hat-trick in the second half and Elias Parthimos and Darcy Skopelitis also found the back of the net as United remained in command from start to finish.

Despite the significant scoreline, the game didn’t come without duress for United and goalkeeper Aaron Yu was required on a number of occasions, ultimately winning the man of the match for the final and golden glove for the entire tournament.

The win ties a neat bow on a quite thrilling 12-month period for the senior futsal team.

This time last year, Gui Costa guided the side to the Championship title and earned promotion back to the top flight having been relegated in the middle of the year.

Since then, the team secured survival in a thrilling play-off in the first half of 2024 before achieving a fourth-placed finish in the second season while making back-to-back Clubs Cup finals.

With a piece of silverware in the bag, all eyes will now turn to a massive 2025/1 season with ambitions of more success over the horizon.
