Western United are confirmed to play in Tasmania on Saturday 17th and Thursday 22nd of April as Australian Professional Leagues announced the next round of fixtures for the A-League.
The club will play two home games at York Park in Launceston within five days and are set to take on ladder leaders Central Coast Mariners in a blockbuster Saturday afternoon game.
The Green and Black will then play Wellington Phoenix on Thursday April 22 at the same venue. The match will follow a curtain raiser between Victorian senior women’s team Calder United and a Tasmanian select team.
A festival of football will surround the two games, with the team staying in Launceston for the week. Fans will have the opportunity to meet and greet players and staff from both the A-League and Calder United teams at grassroots football tournaments, a family fun day and signing session.
Western United CEO Chris Pehlivanis said the club is motivated to make its time in Tasmania a collaborative, free-spirited and successful journey across Bass Strait.
“We know that Tasmania plays host to some of the country’s most passionate and dedicated sports fans and bats above its average in producing world class athletes across all sports.
“For Western United, the partnership with Football Tasmania and the Tasmanian Government has come at the right time as Australia looks to open borders and promote travel and tourism within its shores once again.
“The week-long Festival of Football will give the Tasmanian community in and around Launceston, Devonport and Hobart the opportunity to experience what an A-League club has to offer.
“Our team will be hosting community activations in all three cities as well as hosting a family fun day the Sunday after our first match on April 18, which will have a real festival feel to it and provide fans with an opportunity to meet and greet the players,” Pehlivanis concluded.
Tickets for both matches will be on sale this week. Stay tuned to Western United’s website and social media accounts for further information.
