Western United Cup Geelong spreads the Green and Black through the West

Western United Cup Geelong

Western United continues to amplify football in the west of Victoria, launching a brand-new junior tournament – the Western United Cup Geelong.

Following on from the massive success of the Western United Cup in Ballarat, the new tournament will strengthen United’s footprint where it all began in Geelong.

This year, the Western United Cup shattered records to become the largest girls-only tournament in Australia, including almost 100 teams and thousands of participants and spectators in Ballarat.

The Club will now hope to replicate that experience in Geelong, a place that remains a crucial part of United’s identity.

Taking place right before the junior season kicks off, the Western United Cup Geelong will go from 11-13 April and unite clubs throughout the West.

Differing from the Ballarat tournament, this tournament is open to boys and girls aged between 8-16 from clubs, schools or academies.

United will work closely with Football Geelong and the some 20 clubs in the Geelong and Surf Coast region to make a spectacular inaugural event.

The Club continues to promote youth participation in football, developing pathways for kids to enjoy playing and aspire to reach the professional level.

The Green and Black’s connection with Geelong continues to grow since the Club’s first-ever home match was played at GMHBA Stadium in 2019.

Western United played Isuzu UTE A-League Men and Australia Cup matches throughout each of its first three seasons, developing a superb following in the area.

Now it’s time for the next step for the Club in Geelong with this inaugural tournament set to be one of the biggest events on the footballing calendar for the area.

More information will follow suit about registrations and further competition details as the junior pre-season kicks into gear.

For now, mark your calendars for 11-13 April and get your teams ready to compete across an incredible weekend in Geelong.
