Western United traveled further west on Saturday to take on the Wellington Phoenix in Ballarat.

The Green and Black were looking to make it three wins from their past four, however, the in-form Phoenix showed their credentials on a hot afternoon at MARS Stadium.

David Ball put the away team in front just prior to the interval.

Wellington’s lead was doubled shortly after half-time when Callum McCowatt struck past Filip Kurto.

The Phoenix found their third late in the match through their star Mexican Ulises Davilla.

Alessandro Diamanti pulled one back for United from the penalty spot, but it wasn’t enough as Wellington ran out 3-1 winners.
