Western United launches six-week Championship Trophy Tour

Western United Trophy Launch

Western United will spend September and October connecting with fans in the West after launching its Championship Trophy Tour on Thursday.

The Trophy Tour began at the Club’s training base at Essendon FC’s NEC Hangar, with Alessandro Diamanti and Josh Risdon seeing the Isuzu UTE A-League Men Championship trophy off in the back of the Club’s Isuzu UTE vehicle.

“I have been with this Club since the beginning and we want to thank all the people that believed in us. We want more people to join us and build our young Club for everyone to enjoy in the West,” Diamanti said.

“All the boys will be out and about, meeting the fans and getting ready to challenge for more silverware for the Club in the future. We’ve got the best fans in the league and we want more people to get around us and get involved in football,” Risdon added.

The first stop on the WUFC Trophy Tour is Woodgrove Shopping Centre in Melton with some big guests arriving this weekend.

Italian superstar Alessandro Diamanti and new signing Jacob Tratt will bring the trophy to Woodgrove on Friday September 2 from 3:45pm until 4:30pm.

Fan-favourite goalkeeper Ryan Scott will follow up on Saturday alongside burgeoning young star Rhys Bozinovski, the pair being available from 3:00pm until 3:45pm.

The Championship Trophy will then move to Highpoint Shopping Centre in Maribyrnong, with a week full of appearances from Monday September 5 until Sunday September 11.

Sunday September 18 will see the trophy join the whole playing squad and coaching staff head to Wyndham Park in Werribee for Western United’s first ever Family Day.

This event in particular will give fans in the West the chance to mix with the entire Western United squad, share some snaps with the Championship trophy and take in an array of Western United-themed entertainment and activities.

Following that, the major leg of the Trophy Tour will take place at the Royal Melbourne Show, with the Club setting up on each day of the popular event at Flemington.

Nearly half a million people flock to the event during school holidays each year, and 2022 will be special as the Green and Black take over with the Trophy Tour.

That will lead the tour into the beginning of October where the trophy will spend a week at Pacific Plaza in Werribee before ending its road trip at AAMI Park on Sunday October 16 at United’s first home match of the season against Sydney FC.

John Aloisi’s men begin their Championship defence on Friday October 7 against Melbourne City but will play a home match for the first time in the 2022/23 season the following week.

The match will kick off at 5pm, but fans should arrive early to celebrate the unveiling of the trophy to commence the new season.

Weekly updates will be posted detailing timing and guests at each stop along the Trophy Tour, plus there will be surprise visits along the way within the community around the West.

Fans should stay tuned to the Club website, social media channels and member mails to ensure they can be part of the action.

Be ready for an action-packed six weeks, deck yourself out in Green and Black and head out to see your favourite players along with the Club’s maiden A-League Men Championship Trophy.
