Western United can provide an update on the injury status of Liberty A-League Women striker Hannah Keane.
After scoring the opening goal in the Round 21 match against Western Sydney Wanderers on Saturday night, Keane was injured in the 80th minute and assisted off the pitch.
Keane was transported to hospital where she underwent assessments which confirmed the medical team’s diagnosis that the American had suffered a ruptured patellar tendon in her right knee.
Hannah will undergo surgery next week and will, after recuperation, commence rehabilitation.
The injury will unfortunately mean that Keane will miss the remainder of the 2023/24 Liberty A-League season and an extended period of football beyond that.
Hannah has been grateful for the outpouring of support from the Western United faithful, receiving messages and well wishes from the Green and Black family.
“Thank you so much to everyone who has reached out to me with the kind and supportive messages. Things like this are always tough, but injuries come with playing sport and now the focus is on doing everything I can to get back onto the field,” she said.
Keane has had another tremendous season in Green and Black and will claim the team’s golden boot for the second straight campaign, notching 10 goals this term. Keane has also contributed a team-high four assists.
