Western United pre-season continues with St Albans friendly

Western United

Western United will continue its pre-season tuning with a friendly against St Albans Saints on Wednesday August 24.

The match will be played at Hume City’s Valley Park Events Centre with kick-off at 7:45pm, and fans can attend the match for free to get a glimpse of the Green and Black stars in action.

Valley Park Events Centre has held great significance for the Club in recent weeks, being the venue where Calder United won the NIKE F.C. Cup Final and also where Western United’s NPL 3 Senior side clinched a spot in the promotion play-offs on Saturday.

This friendly will be the second in United’s pre-season calendar after a 3-0 win over Bulleen Lions at City Vista Recreation Reserve earlier this month.

Noah Botic, Steven Lustica and Lachie Wales were on the scoresheet on that night as senior players and a number of NPL starlets got their chance to impress John Aloisi ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The Western United Head Coach will be set to choose from an extended squad list again with players looking to force themselves into the boss’ plans for next season.

St Albans finished their season in 10th place in Victoria’s top NPL division, a big improvement on last season after they were sitting bottom of the table before the campaign was suspended.

The Croatian club earned promotion to the top flight of NPL in 2019 and, given two years interrupted by COVID-19, have kept their spot in the league at the first time of asking.

As the 2022/23 Isuzu UTE A-League Men season opener against Melbourne City draws ever closer, these opportunities for preparation in pre-season will be invaluable for another long and competitive campaign.

The Club looks forward to returning to the community in the West and playing in front of the Green and Black army again as preparations continue for the season proper.
