Western United reveals squad numbers for 2021/22 season

Ahead of the launch of the 2021/22 A-League Men’s season, Western United can confirm the list of squad numbers for the campaign ahead.

With a number of incomings and outgoings over the off-season there has been plenty of room for change and many numbers for new players to take.

New star centre-back Leo Lacroix will step into the No.4 shirt in his first season in Australia after joining from FC Sion in his native Switzerland.

The big centre-half is set to add to the defence with Tomoki Imai, who retains his No.6 shirt, and fellow new signing Nikolai Topor-Stanley who is sticking with the No.44 that has served him well throughout his illustrious career.

Serbian striker Aleksandar Prijovic has arrived in Melbourne and began training with the team this week and will have No.99 across his back, the same number with which he had great success at PAOK Thessaloniki in Greece.

Rene Krhin has also joined his new teammates this week, and the former Inter Milan midfielder will wear No.16 as he looks to make an impact in the middle of the pitch this season. So too will Neil Kilkenny, and he will keep the No.88 that he has worn for a number of years.

Dylan Wenzel-Halls enjoyed a breakout season with Brisbane Roar last year playing as a centre forward, and the 23-year-old will adorn that traditional No.9 jersey as he looks to continue firing in green and black.

Jamie Young takes the vacant No.1 shirt in goal while Ryan Scott will have a change, moving from the No.30 with which he broke into the team to wear 37 on his back this season.

Ben Garuccio will wear No.17 for the season, his first at the club after making the move across town from Melbourne City, and Christian Theoharous will take No.34.

Alessandro Diamanti has made the No.23 shirt his own throughout his career for club and country, and the United skipper will sport the same number as he leads United into a third season.

Adisu Bayew (31), Ajak Deu (36) and Rhys Bozinovski (42) each signed their first A-League scholarship contracts over the break and each take their first senior shirt numbers. Bayew wore the No.31 in his four appearances in the latter part of last season, while Deu and Bozinovski will look to make their debuts this season.

Noah Botic has also joined the club on a scholarship deal, returning to Australia after two years in Germany with Hoffenheim. He will take the No.38 shirt.
